blog: making a silk purse out of a sow’s ear…

Our brief on one of our recent architectural commissions, was to help our client create an attractive car sales pitch within budget. The overall site area was quite large, and the security measures required, along with signage, car-washing facilities, drainage and resurfacing works were extremely costly. Many car sales pitches utilise Portakabins as site offices which, admittedly, aren’t the most attractive things to look at. Our client asked if there was anything we could do to make the site offices more aesthetically pleasing, and we came up with a scheme which saw the Portakabins clad in cedar weatherboarding, the installation of attractive contemporary planters, flags and a decked area for customers to sit out on during nicer weather.

We are currently seeking planning permission for this scheme via Bradford Council, and we feel we have provided a solution which is both attractively designed and financially realistic. Let’s hope the authorities share our view.
