April has been a very busy month for us (so much so that we’ve neglected the website a little bit) and has seen some great progress for a number of our architectural projects which are currently on site. Our pub & restaurant refurbishment / major extension near Otley, Leeds is now approaching completion, with the bar about to be installed on site in the next couple of weeks. The works have been undertaken by NRG Developments of Ilkley, who have so far carried out a fantastic job. Our contemporary house in East Morton, Bradford, (adjacent to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal) is also taking shape fast and is due to be completed during early summer, and our huge four-storey extension in Oakworth (between Skipton and Bradford) is now practically complete, with some professional photographs due to be commissioned in the coming weeks.

In addition to the above, we have recently secured full planning consent for a pair of stone-built, yet contemporary semi-detached houses in Cottingley, Bingley, and works are due to start on the construction drawings imminently. We were required to provide a good deal of information to Bradford Planners in respect of this application, in the form of flood risk assessments and the like, in order to satisfy them that our proposals were suitable, as there is an open water-course within the site. This will be made into an attractive garden feature and no doubt progress photographs will be uploaded over the coming months as works commence.

In terms of projects on the drawing board, we have developed plans for a multi-unit residential scheme in south Bradford over recent weeks, with a planning application imminent, and are also in the process of developing construction drawings for a delightful new-build house in Baildon, near Bradford, for which we obtained planning permission some time ago. In terms of new architectural commissions, we have recently been appointed on several new residential projects in Baildon, as well as Moortown and Roundhay in Leeds……..

Our extensive full refurbishment and restaurant room extension at The Spite P.H. (soon to be renamed The Roebuck) on the northern outskirts of Otley, near Leeds, is now nearing completion. The shell of the main extension is practically complete, with the new timber framed windows and doors currently being installed. We are particularly pleased about the quality of the external materials, in that they match the existing building incredibly well.

The restaurant room extension and sun terrace nearing completion.

Internally, the layout is rapidly taking shape. Imposing feature reclaimed timber trusses are the focal point of the restaurant room, along with the reclaimed brickwork internal walls, whilst in the existing pub, the reclaimed brickwork will also be used to clad the existing chimney breasts incorporating interesting soldier courses and herringbone coursing arrangements.

The restaurant room with feature timber trusses and reclaimed brick walls….

The window seat is also currently being installed to the front elevation, along with the green oak porch, and generally, the building works being carried out by NRG Developments of Ilkley, are of the very highest standard. This project has represented one of the most exciting and rewarding architectural commissions we have worked on in recent times, and we are certainly looking forward to the grand opening and uploading finished architectural photographs this Spring…..

With several new enquiries, various appointments for new architectural commissions and numerous projects on site, March 2012 looks like being another interesting month for us. Our public house refurbishment and extension near Otley, Leeds, is rapidly taking shape, and looks set to open it’s doors in the spring. Our new contemporary house in East Morton, near Bradford, is also progressing well, with a summer completion in sight, along with our colossal four storey residential extension in Oakworth (between Skipton and Bradford) and several smaller residential commissions on site in and around the Leeds and Bradford area. We’ll be uploading further progress photos of these projects in due course.

In terms of projects on the drawing board, we’ve recently met with planners in London with regard to our contemporary new house in Harrow, and received some positive feedback. Following some architectural tweaks, we will be hopeful of securing a planning approval for this scheme in the coming weeks, as well as hopefully receiving planning permission for two new houses in Bingley, near Bradford, in the coming days.

During February we were involved in the internal planning of a sausage factory in Nottinghamshire, undertook a comprehensive interior design and fit-out package of drawings for a hotel, bar and restaurant refurbishment in North East Lincolnshire, and produced several planning and building regulations applications for residential projects in Leeds, Ilkley, Bradford and Stafford…..

Our large extension and refurbishment project in Oakworth (between Bradford and Skipton) is now nearing completion, and we are delighted with the way it is turning out. The reclaimed stone, which the walls of the large four storey extension have been constructed from, looks fantastic, and visually it is almost impossible to see the difference between the original house and the new extension. The ornate architectural stone balustrading has now been installed around the extensive roof terrace, and once the balustrading has been treated, in order to blend in with the stone walls, along with the proposed teak decking to the roof terrace, we are hoping that the results will be stunning.

The ornate architectural stone balustrade which surrounds the extensive first floor roof terrace.

We are also delighted with the aluminium leaded windows which have recently been installed, as these compliment the original house beautifully. All the contractors involved have done a sterling job on this project so far; none more so than McCabe Building Contractors, who we have now undertaken several projects with, and with whom we have forged an excellent working relationship.

The large bi-fold doors have recently been installed around the front corner of the new extension, with a large external decked area soon to be brought into use.

As mentioned previously, we are delighted with progress on this project and can’t wait for it to be completed so that we can commission some professional photographs. With a number of our architectural commissions in the Leeds and Bradford area currently nearing completion, it is a particularly rewarding time for us…..

It’s been pleasing to see a number of our projects developing well on site during recent weeks. Our contemporary, bespoke new house in East Morton, near Bradford, is progressing nicely following the recent planning approval from Bradford Council. The ground works, slab and walls below ground have now been completed, and the stone and rendered walls will be started this week. We were appointed to provide a full architectural service for this project, and will therefore be undertaking several site visits and uploading regular updates to our blog during the coming months.

The contemporary new house in East Morton, next to the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, takes shape

Another of our projects, which is the refurbishment and extension of The Spite P.H. near Otley, Leeds, is rapidly progressing, with the main shell building works nearing completion. Again, we were appointed to provide a full architectural service for this project (as well as interior design & project management) and feel fortunate to have been involved in such a lovely project in the manner which we have been. The image below shows the interior of the main extension, with the feature timber trusses and reclaimed brick internal walls clearly visible.

The attractive reclaimed brick walls and timber trusses which will be a predominant feature of the new restaurant extension at The Spite P.H.

The main extension has reached a stage where the bulk of the roof has been formed, along with the extent of the sun terrace. We are very much looking forward to seeing the effects of the stone treatment following completion, as this will hopefully create a much more seamless blend between new and existing. The existing stone has been weathered over the last 100 or so years, and the intention is to treat the new stone so that it blends in and looks weathered.

A hands-on client! The shape of the contemporary dwelling in East Morton emerges on site…

In addition to this, our stunning four-storey house extension in Oakworth, between Bradford and Skipton, is nearing completion. Building works are now practically complete, with the ornate stone balustrade to the first floor sun terrace currently being installed. Keep an eye out for several completed architectural “projects” being added to the site shortly.

In terms of our work on the drawing board, we are swiftly progressing designs for an exciting hotel lobby, bar and restaurant refurbishment in North East Lincolnshire, and are also busy with a number of smaller domestic commissions. We have been greatly encouraged by numerous architectural enquiries in Leeds, Bradford and Ilkley already in 2012, so we will no doubt be busy keeping the website regularly updated over the coming weeks and months….

We have been encouraged by a number of new architectural enquiries in the opening few days of 2012. As well as enquiries in Leeds and Bradford we have also secured commissions for new projects in North East Lincolnshire and Staffordshire, and aim to post further updates accordingly in the forthcoming weeks.

As for our ongoing projects, another of our new-build houses is nearing completion in Baildon, near Bradford, much to the satisfaction of our client. The building works have been carried out by CND Building Contractors, of Baildon, to an impeccable standard, and we hope to be working with them again on other local projects in the near future.

Works nearing completion on our new-build house project in Baildon, near Bradford.

Our public house extension and refurbishment project in Otley, near Leeds, for which we have been appointed to provide a full architectural service (including interior design & project management services) is also progressing well on site. NRG Developments of Ilkley have been appointed as main contractor and, as can be seen from the image below, the construction of the new sun terrace is almost complete, with the main extension and internal refurbishment works progressing rapidly. Our client is hopeful of officially opening the venue shortly after Easter 2012.

We are delighted with progress on our large and very impressive four storey house extension in Oakworth, located between Bradford and Skipton, in West Yorkshire, which is being expertly undertaken by McCabe builders to a typically high standard. The project consists of a large side extension to a delightful country home in the Oakworth conservation area. The extension will feature a basement cinema, large play room with a huge glazed bi-folding door opening on each side, a stunning roof terrace with ornate stone balustrades, as well as numerous internal features which link the new extension with the old house. For example, the existing house bathroom has been designed so that it will extend into the new element, incorporating a large new sauna, and the existing outside kitchen wall has been removed so that it is open to the new play room, thus creating a huge new open living space.

Building works nearing completion…

The existing house is well shielded by mature trees, which aided us in our design of a substantial extension, which was granted planning permission by Bradford Council at the first time of asking. Following our successful planning application, we set about producing a thoroughly comprehensive set of working drawings which have been closely worked to in an excellent manner by McCabe’s. The structure was complex and as many as eighteen steel beams are now in place holding up the first and second floor accommodation, as well as the 80m2 roof terrace.

Glazed bi-folding doors in excess of 7 metres wide are due to be installed tomorrow which will obviously add to the already impressive look of the project. In our opinion, one of the fundamental factors in making this project work was the construction of the stone walls, and how closely this could be matched to the existing. I think it’s fair to say that the builders have done an incredible job in this respect, and once finished, the project will look absolutely stunning. We are very much looking forward to adding completed photos and details into the “projects” section of our website during early 2012.

The project was featured in our “projects” section, and at some point in the coming months we shall be replacing the artists impressions with actual photographs of the completed building.

As the site is close to the Leeds and Liverpool canal, and in a prominent position, we expect it will receive a good deal of interest, both during the construction phase, and when completed. Following our successful planning application via Bradford Council, our client is naturally anxious to progress with works as swiftly as possible, and no doubt further (and hopefully more interesting) photographs will be added to our blog in due course. For information on the approved design see the following page on our website:

Following our appointment to provide full architectural & interior design services, we are pleased to announce that works have now commenced on the extension and refurbishment of The Spite public house in the small village of Newall-with-Clifton near Otley, Leeds. Once building work has been completed and the doors re-opened to the public, the venue will revert back to it’s original name, “The Roebuck”. Demolition and strip out works are progressing well, with the foundations of the new extension due to be poured next week. It is intended for the project to be completed and open in time for spring. The project is being undertaken by NRG Developments of Ilkley who we will no doubt be working closely with over the coming months.

We are currently involved in producing some 3D visualisations of how the completed project will look, and will no doubt be uploading these into our project pages in due course.
