Project brief:

We are currently awaiting Planning permission for this development which is located in a garden plot in a well-established residential street. The first floor accommodation has been located within the roof-space as there are existing houses close by on both sides of the development. It was considered that the roof line should remain as low as possible in order to minimise the impact that the new dwelling would have on its surroundings.

Another issue which we were aware of whilst designing this property was the fact that there are a lot of new-build dwellings situated along the street scene, which has resulted in a lack of soft landscaping and materials. We have introduced a solid timber front door, garage door and side gate, as well as a timber support post to the front porch in an attempt to soften the appearance of the new dwelling.

Our brief was to design something relatively traditional and straight forward, although we feel we have achieved this, we have also given the house some individuality on the existing street scene.
