Project brief:
We were appointed to provide architectural & detailed design services for this project in Menston, near Ilkley, which consisted of a large two storey extension, comprising of a double garage and laundry room at ground floor, along with a spacious, contemporary bathroom and bedroom / home office at first floor, as well as the formation of a large hallway with a new arched window enjoying the spectacular views over Ilkley Moor.
The existing house was faced in brickwork and had been constructed in the 1930’s, and although the original house was certainly attractive, it was the client’s intention to create a much more contemporary feel to the extended dwelling. Our planning application to Bradford Council sought permission for not only the large extension, but also to re-render the whole house in a crisp white finish, which we think works very well. The works were carried out to an excellent standard by Mawson & Atwell Builders, of Bingley, much to our client’s delight.
Interest is added at first floor with stepped level accommodation, in order to achieve greater headroom in the bathroom space, with full-height sloping ceilings, two dormers, and a raking full-height feature window in the new bedroom / office.
